Epilepsy

During the seizure, brain dysfunction occurs and there is no rule of brain electrical activity, which may cause the State of consciousness change and sometimes can cause limbs or head autonomous movement.

Epileptic seizure can be divided into several different types. For children, attack is the most common type of epilepsy, about three-fourths belong to this type of epilepsy patients. Small attack is a common second childhood epilepsy type.

The main features of Grand Mal:

1, before the seizure, child irritable or behavior is not normal.

2, the children can appear tonic convulsions for up to 30 seconds, during this period, children may fall to the ground unconscious, but breathing becomes irregular.

3, the child\'s limbs or facial twitching can last 20 seconds to a few hours. Children likely to bite his tongue, may also be large and urine incontinence.

4, after the convulsions stop, likely will continue for a few minutes in children with stupor, sometimes even up to 10 minutes.

5, after the recovery of consciousness in children with often lose their sense of direction, or confusion, headache, sleepiness may also occur.

The main features of small attacks:

1, children with behavioral, stared at lack of response to the environment in the air, 10-15 seconds, but does not fall.

2, does not recall having occurred in children with convulsion attacks. Single side face or limbs caused convulsions benign focal epilepsy is another more rare types of epilepsy. Children may lose consciousness.

If a child taking a major attack, parents should put him into the recovery position, and kept this position until he fully recovered.

Other types of seizure, to have the children sit in a quiet place, until he fully recovered. Smoothly to calm him and comfort him, and went to hospital as soon as possible.

Doctors can leave parents describe the seizure in children with behavior and symptoms before, during and after the attack. In order to identify possible stimulus, the doctor may also ask parents: \"children before they are doing? \"Usually will do electroencephalogram to determine the type of epilepsy in children. May also be CT of the brain to identify whether it is structural abnormalities of the brain causing seizure, sometimes doctors may also take blood tests to rule out other causes that could lead to seizure. Treatment, generally require use of anticonvulsant drugs in children with epilepsy. Usually given anticonvulsant drugs to the last 2-4 years after seizure, and then in the next few months of gradually reducing the dosage of the drug until withdrawal.

After treatment, conditions for different types of epilepsy in children will differ. About three-fourths attack, and up to 2 years children for life no longer recurrence of seizure. Most suffered from a benign face in children with epilepsy, with the pathogenesis of age and no longer. But suffering from Petit mal epilepsy in children with the situation is more difficult to forecast, although they do not have other defects.
